JAX Tech Talk Episode 68: Let’s Talk iPSC Disease Models as a Tool in Drug Discovery (Nov. 7, 2023)
Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology has been greatly enhanced since its discovery by Yamanaka in 2006. Significant improvements in generating, differentiating, and gene-editing of iPSCs have contributed to the increased versatility and effectiveness of iPSC models used in a variety of preclinical research applications. During this JAX Tech Talk, Dr. Steven Rodriguez, Lab Head of the Rare & Neurological Diseases Therapeutic Area at Sanofi, discusses how his group uses iPSC models to understand disease biology and then leverages resulting data and insights to identify new drug targets. He also reviews steps critical for developing iPSC models, including iPSC line selection, characterization, and phenotyping.
